An intimate beach town with a big-city personality,
Delray Beach is a lively South Florida community located between Boca Raton and West Palm Beach. With awards including
Most Enjoyable Small Town in the USA and one of America's Happiest Seaside Towns.
The
closest airport to Delray Beach is West Palm Beach/Palm Beach (PBI) Airport, which is 15.8 miles away.
Other local airports include Fort Lauderdale – Hollywood International (FLL) (27.5 miles), Miami (MIA) (48.1 miles), Ft. Myers (RSW) (104.7 miles), and Orlando (MCO) (156.7 miles).
Soak up the Florida sun on the beach along the crystal-clear Atlantic Ocean by day and enjoy the vibrant environment of downtown at night. When you visit 'Florida's Village by the Sea', you can't help but experience the wet and welcoming feeling that makes this tourist town a pleasure to visit.
Called the Best Beach in the southeastern U.S. by Travel Holiday Journal, Delray Municipal Beach is
popular with people of all ages. You'll see families on holiday, young people playing basketball, and elderly people basking in the warm sun. Visitors looking for excitement will rent equipment at the Delray Beach Watersports Cottage on the beach near Casurina Drive. Parking is also available nearby, as are many restaurants and eateries that you can walk to after you've worked up your appetite, such as Boston's Beach and Caffe Luna Rosa.
The
pedestrian-friendly epicenter of downtown Delray Beach, '
The Avenue', is known for its retail, dining, and small-town sidewalk charm. Here, brick-paved pathways lined with palm trees and oak trees create a charming atmosphere that allows for a great day or night stroll.
A good plan for history freaks is the
Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. Visitors have the ability to explore
South Florida's connection to Japan while visiting a collection of six lush, authentic gardens. Each garden was influenced by a different period and style of Japanese gardening, both of which were planned by Hoichi Kurisu. The museum shows traditional and contemporary Japanese culture through enticing exhibitions, a range of interactive activities, a world-class bonsai show, pan-Asian cuisine at Cornell Cafe, and a distinctive museum shop packed with one-of-a-kind pieces for all age groups.
Unwind on Saltwater Brewery, Delray Beach's
first local microbrewery with a 'Reef Room' for on-site sampling. The brewery is managed by a team of Floridians who take particular care of each batch of crafted beer made using only natural ingredients.
