Although the town of Stuart, Florida, does not have the name of recognition of some of its neighbors, it is sometimes referred to as ´
the Sailfish Capital of the World´, which makes it a
hot spot for saltwater fishermen from all over the country.
Vero Beach (VRB) is the closest airport to Stuart. There are, though, easier ways to get to Stuart. Red Coach provides a bus from Fort Lauderdale to Fort Pierce five days a day.
Stuart is situated on the Atlantic coast of the state labeled '
The Treasure Coast' because too
many ships have been shipwrecked in rough Atlantic storms. If you want to find out more about Stuart's past, go to the
Stuart Heritage Museum. It provides a fascinating look into the city's history with old photos, maps, recipe books, information on the Seminole Indian roots, and lots of quirky items.
With guaranteed sunshine and sunny temperatures all year round, Stuart is the sort of spot you want to spend much of your time outdoors. With ships sailing by, flying fish, manatees, and dolphins on the shore, Stuart is a
sailor's fantasy.
With its wonderful place right on the water, there are a lot of extravagant yachts and speed boats moored in the marina, so if you're looking for a cruise down the St. Lucia Canal, you'll be onboard the Schooner Lily. With
daytime sightseeing and intimate cruises with live music at sunset, it's a perfect way to see the area from a different perspective.
In comparison to many other cities, Stuart provides
free transportation in the center. Although there are a few tram stops throughout the area, you can always flag them down the street.
Stuart's bustling downtown is filled with excellent places to eat. Book a table at
The Gafford for fine dining. Good quality, fresh ingredients plus excellent cooking results in dishes such as locally-made burrata with pesto and heirloom cherry tomatoes and seared Asian tuna. The bagels at
Stuart Coffee House are a fantastic deal, delicious breakfast; while
Pusateri's Chicago Pizza is authentic and indulgent.
From small fashion boutiques to vibrant homeware shops, Stuart is committed to keeping things local. Walk-in and out of the shops on
Osceola Lane. Gumbo Limbo Coastal Style and Matilda's in their colorful dresses and kitsch homeware.
Earthtones is a treasure chest of items like incense, vintage number plates, and hippie clothes.
The Sauce Shack is a one-of-a-kind treasure, packing hundreds of hot sauces from around the world. Don't forget the
Kilwins ice cream!
You can hear the
acoustic sounds coming from Sneaki Tiki on a Friday night in Stuart. The sounds of the
Rock'N Riverwalk take over the entire downtown on Sundays.
The free concert takes place right on the river and attracts huge audiences of all ages. For a more lively night out, check out the bands at Terra Fermata, an outdoor live music venue that hosts top-notch music, 7 days a week.
