Few beach towns have everything, but Clearwater is one of those rare and valuable gems. Nestled on Florida's west coast near Tampa, the city
averages 361 days of sunshine per year.
To reach Clearwater, exit at Tampa International Airport and continue west on State Road 60 to the scenic Courtney Campbell Causeway (also known as State Road 60) which ends at Clearwater Beach. Take 1-4 west from Orlando. Then follow the signals above to Clearwater.
Key attractions include
lots of free and family-friendly waterfront events, fresh-from-the-gulf seafood, fantastic beach bars,
an entertaining year-round event calendar, a range of hotels that suit your budget, and, of course, miles and miles of beautiful beaches.
The most famous spot on the sand,
Clearwater Beach, has a lot to do. Stroll down the half-mile Beach Walk, where you can spend a day snorkeling in the ocean, check out the surf stores, look for the right souvenir at the tourist boutique, or take a bite to eat along the coastline.
No matter what you do during the day, go directly to
Pier 60 for the
regular sunset celebration. It's a free performance you don't want to miss. Not only does the sun show dazzling, glorious colors through the sky, local street performers like fire-breathers, tightrope-walkers, and musically inclined jugglers keep you partying all night long.
A perfect way to get around town, the Jolley Trolley runs on Clearwater Beach every day. The Coastal Path runs on weekends between Clearwater Beach and downtown Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, and Tarpon Springs, all of which are perfect places for a relaxing day trip to discover these quaint coastal areas.
The mainstay of Clearwater Beach and
popular for its iconic community sandwiches, Frenchy's Rockaway Grill is the largest of the four French establishments in the region. The open-air restaurant provides a beautiful combination of Floribbean fare, beach views, vibrant rum cocktails, and local live bands. Another hot spot in the core of all the activity,
Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill & Bar, is where you can
witness stunning gulf sunsets, drink tropical drinks, coconut shrimp nose, and listen to live music on the deck throughout the night.
There is an
eclectic selection of bars in the city that can quench any appetite and fuel any dance party. The spring break crowd enjoys Shephard's Tiki Beach Bar, where there's a waterfront festival stage with live acts ranging from club-style DJs to casual reggae bands.
Located on the top of the 10th floor of Clearwater Beach's Pier House 60 Hotel, Jimmy's Crow's Nest is the best location to enjoy amazing views and cold drinks. At noon, they toast by ringing a bell and passing shots.
The nearby brewery Pair O'Dice Brewing Co. is owned by retired engineers from Anheuser-Busch. They use 300 pounds of strawberries, locally grown in Plant City, for their famous Lucky Lucy Strawberry Blonde. Hang out in the
tasting room and sip a crafted beer.
