Locust Projects Winter Exhibits Miami

Alternative Art Space.

Locust Projects, Miami's longest running alternative art space, will feature three new exhibitions during Miami Art Week 2022. On view: ule ole allez is a major new installation by Ecuador-born/New York City-based artist Ronny Quevedo created in collaboration with local futsal (aka football) players. The work draws parallels between movement in sports activities and migration over local and international borders and the ever-changing rules immigrants face.

On view in the Screening Room is Portals of Introspection, a selection of video works guest curated by Donnamarie Baptiste featuring works by Mikey Please, Duke Riley, and Paul Ward, and in the Project Room is Room for the Living/Room for the Dead, a new installation by Miami-based artist T. Eliott Mansa.

Founded by artists for artists in 1998, Locust Projects is Miami’s longest running nonprofit alternative art space. We produce, present, and nurture ambitious and experimental new art and the exchange of ideas through commissioned exhibitions and projects, artist residencies, summer art intensives for teens, and public programs on contemporary art and curatorial practice. As a leading incubator of new art and ideas, Locust Projects emphasizes boundary-pushing creative endeavors, risk-taking and experimentation by local, national and international artists. We invest in South Florida’s arts community by providing artists with project grants and empower creative careers by supporting the administrative work of being an artist through an onsite artist resource hub and access to pro bono legal services.

Locust Projects is making art happen in February through extended artist residencies and three separate ambitious new commissioned projects by San-Francisco-based artist Leila Weefur and two artist collectives, Sonic Insurgency Research Group and the 181 Collective. On view through April 9, 2022, admission is always free.
